On March 13, 2026, the music world will celebrate one of Austria’s most distinguished conductors of our time: Martin Sieghart. On the occasion of his 75th birthday, a festive jubilee concert will take place at the Minoritenkirche Vienna, entirely dedicated to his profound musical passion.
The Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of the celebrant, will perform a work that uniquely reflects the depth and breadth of his artistic output: Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 in E major – a monument of the late Romantic period, whose spiritual grandeur will shine with extraordinary brilliance in the venerable acoustics of the Minoritenkirche.
Martin Sieghart embodies a rare combination of profound knowledge, artistic humility, and charismatic passion. The former long-time principal cellist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra looks back on an impressive international career as a conductor, educator, and festival founder. His work has taken him from Vienna to Stuttgart, Linz, and Arnhem, and on to Japan, South America, and numerous European musical centers. His musical signature is unmistakable: inspired playing marked by clarity, warmth, and uncompromising precision.
Whether with the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, or the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Sieghart has set benchmarks everywhere. A common thread runs through his artistic work: the tireless search for the inner truth of music.
Alongside his freelance work, in 2024 Martin Sieghart was invited as the first conductor for the new concert series at the Vienna Minoritenkirche – a “wonderful task that closes a circle, from the beginnings at the University Church to the Minoritenkirche,” as he himself says.
There, on March 13, 2026, he will celebrate his 75th birthday, following his actual birthday on March 12, when he will conduct Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony in Győr – a gift from the orchestra to its longtime artistic collaborator.
This jubilee concert is a tribute to an artist who has himself become part of Austria’s recent musical history – an evening that moves the heart, and a powerful testament to the enduring strength of music.
